To
suspect that we, or someone we love, may have a terminal illness
is a very stressful and confusing time. To be informed that
actually we have a terminal illness is tragic and can bring
a whole range of emotions to the surface in us. There are
ways to address the emotions and feelings that this knowledge
brings about. First of all, be sure and don’t just act
on suspicions - speak to your doctor or the person with the
illness to confirm things. Being open and honest is difficult
in these circumstances, and may need great sensitivity, but
it is essential to be sure.
If you are sure about the illness, there are many groups willing
to support those who are terminally ill, from local counselling
services to national organisations. Do use them, and talk
it through.
