Phobias

Sometimes we get things which make us feel really anxious and panicky, for no real reason. These feelings may make us avoid certain situations that frighten, or we may worry about looking stupid and nobody else understanding.
If you have a phobia of dogs, you will go to great lengths to avoid them. If its social situations that scare you, you may pretend to yourself that you just don't like them, but know its more than that really.

A phobia will lead the sufferer to avoid situations in which they know they will be anxious, but this will actually make the phobia worse as time goes on. It can also mean that the person's life becomes increasingly dominated by the precautions they have to take to avoid the situation they fear.
Sufferers usually know that there is no real danger, they may feel silly about their fear but they are still unable to control it.

If you think you have a phobia, check out the links below for more info, and make some enquiries about counselling or therapy to help you.
