Anger

Everyone feels angry at times. It is a natural reaction and part of being human. Expressing your anger can be a positive way to release feelings that have been giving you stress. But sometimes when you are angry it seems better to just keep quiet and bottle up how you feel. If you do this over a long time your anger may be triggered by something very trivial and unrelated, frightening you and the people around you. The experiences you have as you grow up can influence how you think anger can be expressed.

Perhaps you find that you:

  • suddenly lose your temper over what later seems to be something trivial
  • become angry and aggressive when you've had a lot to drink
  • shout first and then calm down to realise you had totally over reacted
  • want to hit out more and more
  • your friends are scared to talk to you in case they say the wrong thing

Being angry can affect you physically as well as emotionally. If you have been bottling up how you feel it will take time and effort to break the habit but realising that you have a problem is the first step. Learning about how to assert yourself in a positive way and Anger Management courses can help you to understand why you are angry.
